Yeah, as others have pointed out a ghost isn't exactly a monster, but I wanted to put it in my monster book anyway

Poltergeist
Poltergeist is from German, meaning noisy ghost, with poltern meaning to create a disturbance and geist which is ghost.
A poltergeist is a form of pure energy. Some say they are the spirits of the dead, some say they are devils, and still others have said they are the creations of witches. Although poltergeist have been studied for some hundreds of years and reported for more than 2,000 years, no one can claim to fully understand these beings.
Unlike other ghosts, a poltergeist can mingle with our physical world, manipulating it at will and with a limitless amount of vigor in their doings. They can make strange sounds such as shrieks and whispers and loud noises, though the words that they speak are said to be rarely understandable. They can create strange smells that seem to have no source. They are also known for slamming doors, rearranging and hiding small objects, breaking china and glass, turning lights on and off, and disrupting other electrical equipment such as telephones. Besides all these things now and then a poltergeist will get sudden bursts of energy which consists of the lifting and throwing of objects such as furniture and dishes, sometimes throwing stones that were not even in the room in the first place.
Most poltergeists are more mischievous than anything else but there are some that can be very violent. These poltergeists engage themselves in activities that purposely injure those living in the home they inhabit. These poltergeists can bite, pinch, shove, scratch and sexually attack people.
No one knows why a poltergeist chooses to dwell where it does. There does not seem to be any sort of vengeance in mind with a poltergeists doings, implying that if they are the spirits of the dead they have no relation or anything against the families they haunt. Their activities usually surround a particular member of the family. This member of the family is usually a young innocence below the age of eighteen and is most of the time a female. The haunting of poltergeists can start at any time and usually ends just as abruptly as it begins. Their haunting can last from just a few hours, to weeks, to months, and some can remain in a home for several years. As one can well imagine, having ones home inhabited by a poltergeist causes great annoyance and distress for most people. However there have been some families that have been reported to have accepted their poltergeist inhabitant, even so far as to treat it as an overactive member of the family
Interesting Fact: There are over 5000 official records of poltergeist infestations and about 9/10 of them have not been explained by any natural means.

I also like the title - it's just nice to see German deviation titles from time to time.
